If you’re not familiar with SEO, this means Search Engine Optimization. This is essentially the process of improving a website’s visibility in search engines such as Google. The idea is that the more visible you are (aka the higher you rank in search results), the more traffic your website receives. The more traffic coming to a website will often lead to more leads and clients.
Now that I’ve broken that down, let’s take a look at how we were able to achieve this for Palais Noir.
The Challenge
Palais Noir was a new venue in Ajax, Ontario, and was looking to build an online presence while generating leads for their business. The venue initially started with a mini website to have a place on the web to direct clients. The original website was not designed with target clients or SEO in mind, and as a result, was not generating traffic organically.
The Process
Over 3 months, Palais Noir worked with The Event Certificate team to revamp their website content, layout, and navigation with a focus on SEO and traffic conversion. This meant doing keyword research based on their target clients and competitors. We also re-wrote the content on their website to target keywords to increase relevant traffic.
With an optimized layout and lead magnet, we were able to capture visitors to the website who were considering the venue. We we then able to send automated emails to convert them into a consultation, venue tour, phone call, or email.
As a local business, we also focused on optimizing and verifying their Google Business Listing (GBL). When we began this project their GBL was unverified and blocked by Google. This was a crucial step for local traffic and showing up on the maps for potential venue clients.

These changes led to an increase in traffic of over 8000% in comparison to the previous 3 months. This metric is inflated since their website was originally not bringing any traffic. What we did however see was also an increase in inquiries over 90%.
One of the most notable result was also their placement in search results, with the venue ranking in the top 20 for over 30 keywords. The venue was also on Page #1 Google for keywords such as “Ajax Wedding Venue”. Palais Noir also ranked in the top 5 of search results and outranking websites such as WeddingWire.
What We Learned
Palais Noir traffic was fast and significant, mainly due to them being a new website. They were also able to gain a competitive spot in search results due to a gap in competition. Optimizing their Google Business Listing also played a significant role in their ranking. In fact, once their GBL block was lifted, their ranking moved up in less than a week.
